Teaching Latin Systematically
You see that students are struggling. But you don’t know why.
Lisa gets a 5. You want to help—but where to start? ACI? Subject/object? Basics from 7th grade? Lapicida Latinus shows you exactly where each student is struggling. Automatically. Without the hassle of grading.

What Latin Teachers Need Every Day
Anyone who teaches Latin knows this: You see the results—but not the causes.
When teaching Latin, it’s often unclear who has actually understood what. Lapicida Latinus shows you learning progress and accuracy for each grammar topic—tailored to each student, without the need for additional assessments like class tests.
Regular practice is the foundation of any grammar instruction—but you can’t force it. The Officina dashboard automatically flags students who have been inactive for 7+ days so you can follow up with them specifically
Assign texts directly from the reading library as homework—with a due date and a sentence quiz. You can immediately see who has completed the reading assignment and who hasn’t.
9th grade is practicing the perfect tense and the third declension—11th grade is covering all constructions up to ACI. You use learning profiles to specify which grammar topics apply to your class, in line with the curriculum and independent of any specific textbook.
All high school classes under one teacher account. Students join using a join code—no email required, no account setup hassle, and no data protection issues with minors.
Do you have your own translation text for the next class test? Upload it—the Lapicida app breaks it down into sentences and automatically generates a sentence quiz. Targeted preparation with familiar material.
Teaching Latin doesn’t automatically mean IT hassle. The Lapicida app runs in your browser—Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge. No download, no app required. Students can practice in class, at home, or on the go, on any device they have.
Students don’t need an email address—the join code is all that’s needed. No data is shared with third parties, and servers are located in Germany. Parental consent is simplified because no personal student data is collected.
From subject-predicate to subjunctive constructions to ACI, NCI, and the ablative absolute. All constructions covered in high school from 8th grade through the Abitur — configurable by grade level.

What You See
Lapicida in the Chur Model
The Churer Model (Reto Thöny, 2010) limits direct teacher input to a maximum of 15 minutes—the rest of the class period is devoted to students’ independent work. The teacher guides rather than directs. Lapicida is the ideal digital tool for this very teaching concept.
The Churer Model treats teacher-led instruction as nothing more than a brief introduction—a maximum of 15 minutes. You explain the concept, and students practice it directly in the app: independently, at their own pace, with immediate feedback. Less teacher-led instruction, more active learning time. For the moments you learn as a group, four co-op modes — the Sensus Tribunal, the Sentence Relay, the Turbo Race, and the Forum class quiz — get everyone practising together, without streak pressure.
Everyone works on the same topic, each at their own level. Learning profiles unlock exactly the grammar topics relevant to the grade level: 8th grade practices the a-declension, 10th grade covers everything up to the ACI—on the same device, without separate materials, and independent of any specific textbook.
The Churer model calls for individual counseling sessions instead of mass correction. The Officina dashboard shows you in real time who is falling behind and where—enabling a targeted 3-minute intervention: “Lisa, you’re still struggling with subordinate clauses.” No more 12-hour correction weekends.
